Horrific hardly describes the events that took place, that brought about the death of Matthew. And we stand ashamed and powerless, in the face of psychopathic acts as this. Surely the Good Lord has something in mind for the offenders. What goes 'round comes 'round. As for Mrs.Shepard, your son is probably pretty proud of you. I cannot imagine your strife. There is probably no greater tragedy than burying a child and yet you have come thru this with incredible strength, and driven to arouse awareness in our rather complacent fellow men. Ignorance is something very difficult to overcome, but change won't come if we close the book on such crimes, or look the other way. May the Lord give Judy stamina and us what is necessary to look ourselves in the mirror on a daily basis.

It's terrible that hate crimes like this occur. Just because others are different from you, doesn't mean they aren't human beings with feelings and a life. I have friends who are openly gay that I couldn't live without. I'm so sorry that this happened to Matthew. Mrs. Shepard, thank you for being so brave and sharing your story. I would also like to get one of the bracelets. Stay Strong.

This could be anyone of our sons, gay straight, it's just plain hatred. I believe this kind of hatred starts in the home. People don't just turn into these monsters, they are raised with hatred. So come on parents. What's it gonna be? Are you going to be a role model for your children to be kind and dare I say, "tolerant" of other human beings. You never know what kind of person might save your life. A gay man, a white woman, a mexican teacher might teach your child, a jewish girl might be your donor, a chinese man might be the tow driver to come rescue you when you are stranded by the side of the road. We may be of so many different races, religions and lifestyles but we are one race...the Human race. You better think about whose path you may cross on this long journey through life.

I watched this story in Boise Idaho the day that it happened. What a horrible day in America's history. I wish I had the chance to meet Matthew. How sad that his life was taken from him because of hate...and worse that the sentence his murders got was so light. I'm so glad that Judy has been a voice for the Hate Crime Bill...what's more sad is that it hasn't passed yet. How Many more Matthews do we have to have before the country takes notice!

I'm so sad that people could hurt someone who is different than them. I'm not gay, but some of my best friends have been. I had a friend who was when i lived in Omaha NE his name was Mark Norval and he passed away from AIDS. 1st of all it is something people are born with and god loves all. I asked Mark about it and some of my other friends and they all said the same thing. I have a biker website and I take people for who they are. Mark was my best friend and when he died I went to his mothers home and she would not go to see him and I let her have it for it was wrong and she did not go to his funeral. People who say that gay people are going to hell are very wrong for gay people are very nice and very loving people and god loves them.

I was truly saddened by your guests visit to your show. I had forgotten about the Matthew Shephard incident until then. Now as a mother of a 13 year old boy I truly feel the pain of her loss. My son has not openly expressed his sexual interest to me but I know whatever he decides I will always love and support him regardless. I cannot imagine her pain. Losing a child over such a senseless crime is unimaginable. I applaud her for turning it around into a positive motion. I don't know that I could do the same.
